Dunfermline lift Reserve League Cup
Tuesday 31st August 2010
Dunfermline hit back from 3-1 down in the 2009/10 Reserve League Cup (which had been held over from last season due to the severe weather experienced last winter that had resulted in a huge backlog of fixtures) to lift the trophy at the Stark's Park ground of neighbours and hosts Raith Rovers. Striker Steven Leslie was the hero as he netted a hat-trick to take the trophy back to East End Park.
Dougie Hill headed the Rovers in front on 20 minutes following a corner and the Kirkcaldy men were unlucky not to add to their lead shortly afterwards.
Dunfermline drew level when Connor Schiavone took a pass in his stride and slotted past Andy McNeil in the Raith goal just 5 minutes from half time.
The scores were only level for 3 minutes with Graham Weir flicking in a right foot shot to put John McGlynn's reserve side back in front.
Jamie Mole made it 3-1 with 20 minutes left however, Alex Burke gave Dunfermline hope shortly afterwards with a great left foot shot from the edge of the box and 2 minutes later, Leslie equelised after a mistake by the Rovers' centre half Dougie Hill.
With 5 minutes remaining, Leslie put Dunfermline in front for the first time when he headed past the Rovers' keeper Andy McNeil after his initial free kick had been parried out by the keeper and in injury time, Leslie completed his hat-trick by scoring from the penalty spot to complete an incredible comeback and secure the trophy for the Pars.
