December SFL Goal of the Month Winner

Friday 22nd February 2013

Montrose midfielder, David Gray, has been awarded the SFL’s latest Goal of the Month Award for his counter against Rangers at Links Park back in December.

Not content with this award, Gray is now hoping to also pick up the January Award for his strike that earned the Gable Endies a draw at Ibrox on 26th January with the former Airdrie United and Dumbarton player saying: “It is fantastic to win this award.  I knew it was a good goal as soon as I hit it with the outside of my foot after Garry Wood flicked the ball up to me following a good passing move.  It was obviously a high profile game to score in and it is great that so many people around the world saw the goal live on ESPN.

David Gray - Goal of the Month“We were 3-1 down and that gave us a route back into the game.  We then hit the bar and the post before Rangers made it 4-2 in injury time.”

The live ESPN TV audience were told 'that is Kevin McLeish’s goal' and Gray was delighted to clear up any confusion as he said: “It was my goal alright and hopefully, getting this award means that everyone knows it is my goal.”

Just to emphasise how good Gray’s shooting is, he is also included as a candidate for the January Goal of the Month Award due to his 30-yard effort against Rangers at Ibrox last month.

The midfielder added: “The players have been joking with me that I don’t score ordinary goals and it would be great if I could pick up another Goal of the Month Award.  I hit a really good volley against East Stirling in February so hopefully, I could maybe be in it three months running.”
