Livingston’s under-19 coach Paul Connolly tipped Youth Cup final hero Andrew Halliday as the next player from Almondvale to make the big time. Halliday scored the first goal in the Livi youngsters recent 2-0 win over Queen’s Park in the IRN-BRU Youth Cup Final and Connolly expects the attacking midfielder to follow the likes of Graham Dorrans, Robert Snodgrass, Murray Davidson and Leigh Griffiths in making the first team and attracting interest from Scotland and beyond. Said Connolly, “Andrew has now scored 30 times for us from midfield. He is the next Leigh Griffiths to be produced by this club and keeps our great record in producing outstanding youngsters going. He would have scored more but he has been involved in the first team for the last couple of months of the season and he was there on merit.” Oban Saints Tournament Alloa Athletic are returning to compete in the popular Oban Saints pre-season tournament on Saturday July 11. Allan Maitland’s side will take on the host amateur club in the round robin tournament involving Dundee United and the under-19 sides of Hearts, St Johnstone and Hamilton Accies. The Sons also recently set a new clean sheet record of 747 minutes without losing a goal beating the previous record of 666 minutes. New referees appointed The SFA have announced that their 35 Referee Supervisors took in over 1,400 matches last season to help the development of their whistlers in Categories 1 to 4. John Beaton and Kevin Clancy are the only two new appointments to Category 1 next season. |
