Ayr hit Clyde for six Michael Moffat and David Sinclair scored two goals apiece as Ayr progressed to the second round of the Scottish Communities League Cup after thrashing Clyde 6-1. Following a goalless first half, home substitute Dave Winters opened the scoring just three minutes after the break with a well-placed lob from the edge of the box. They doubled their advantage after 63 minutes when Moffat tucked away a low drive from 12 yards. Jonathan Tiffoney tapped in from close range after good work from Anthony Marenghi four minutes later before Sinclair smashed home a fourth from 35 yards after 68 minutes. John Neill's speculative 35-yard effort saw Clyde pull a goal back eight minutes from time but Ayr responded with two further strikes at the end.
