| Match Report | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Airdrie finally break duck Airdrie won their first match of the season thanks to a splendid double from Alan Trouten which helped the Diamonds to a 3-1 victory in the bottom-of-the-table clash against Ayr. After a fairly even 25 minutes, the home side took control and Craig Samson, the Ayr keeper, produced a succession of saves to keep the scoreline blank. Samson went from hero to villain in the 35th minute when Ricky Waddell crossed from the left and, under pressure from Diarmuid O'Carroll, the keeper failed to gather. Trouten was first to react and drilled the ball into the net from 10 yards out. Despite their dominance, the home side created their own problems on the stroke of half-time after a hopeful ball into their penalty area was steered past Stephen Robertson for an own goal. Airdrie restored their lead in the 64th minute when John Baird and Waddell combined and the latter's low, driven cross was forced into the net by O'Carroll. And nine minutes later Trouten remained on-side to gather a wonderful through-ball before making headway towards Samson and chipping the ball past him into the net. That goal all but sealed the win to take Airdrie off the foot of the table. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
